Hey everyone. Today is my first day and I'm finding it difficult and tedious looking up food in the food lists. It should be much simpler and streamlined. I go through pages and pages just to find the right "tomatoes" that I ate for dinner. Maybe I should count my own calories??? Any ideas? Thanks all!

I use a calorie/carb/fat counter booklet that I bought at wally world and it's really handy - includes grocery items, brand names and restaurant food as well. A handy size that I can carry in my handbag.

Hey! I use a book i got at borders (there's prolly a new edition out by now because i bought this years ago) it's called the complete and up to date FAT BOOK. It's the newly revised 4th edition. It has everything in it! Even fast food places. It's the size of a thick paperback novel. I find it way easy to look up anything and then i make sure to record it in my diet/exericse diary (which also came rom borders and was like 2.99 or something :D )

i use an online calorie counter on livestrong.com - HUGE database. I've been using it since the beginning of the year and have added maybe 3 items.

I just started SQ but I was having that same problem. I input the info directly into the SQ database from the package for pre-packaged items and things like fruit that don't have a label, I go with the highest calorie count based on FDA guidelines. I think it would be better to over estimate than to under estimate. Just a thought. Good Luck!

I was looking for this post myself - hi FP! :0) I am also having to add items to the SQ database either because I cannot find exactly what I am eating or I get discouraged after clicking through 10 pages of an item and not still not finding what I have. One of the major difficulties I find is that the database does not follow a standard format of listing food. Also, no dashes, apostrophes, etc are allowed in the search, but sometimes, that's what prevents you from finding your particular item. Some foods have measured amounts (8oz, 1/2 cup, etc), some do not - I forgot to list it myself on a few things I've added (which leads to my next issue). There's also no way to go back and edit an entry you've made - say, forgetting to add the serving size. I'll try to stick with the SQ database, so I can track everything in one place, but it is quickly becoming a hassle and a chore. And for someone who never counted calories to begin with, this set up isn't encouraging me to do so now. I am hoping that SQ improves on the food tracker soon. On the plus side, it is fascinating to learn just how many calories I've been consuming per day - it's a wonder I'm not losing weight (lol)!
