For those of you who walk, do you wear shorts or capri pants? What are the best shoes?

I got a really good pair of track shoes from the mens department at wal mart, make sure they give your feet and ankles good support. My track shoes are a mens size 6 1/2, they just felt stronger for ankle support compared to the stuff they had for women. When walking it depends on the weather but so far I have worn shorts to keep cooler. My walks are very brisk like speed walking and you do sweat. Even if it is cooler when I start I still wear the shorts because it doesn't take long and you start sweating, I walk for 1 hour very fast.

Well, I'll admit, when I decided to start walking, I did it the stupid way and went crazy. I walked a half marathon in May with very, very little prep work. I finished but definitely don't recommend it! I find walking in capri's works best for me. They cover more than shorts and besides, shorts and I have a very long standing agreement. They stay away from me and I'll stay away from them :) For shoes, that's the one thing you cannot skimp on. Take the time (and $$ unfortunately) to stop by one or two running or walking/sports stores and ask them for a fitting. I'm in canada and we have the Running Room here. They'll actually watch your gait to see what type of shoe you need and make recommendations. Shoes are the number one piece of gear when you get into walking or running, this is not the place to skimp. Make sure what you have fits and supports the way you need it to. And if you are planning to go for long walks, look for double layer socks as they'll help to prevent blisters.
