which is better, to work out and then eat? or eat and then work out? I usually do my workout in the afternoon, sometimes I eat lunch and wait an hour then work out, and other times I work out and then I eat lunch. My husband says that I should eat and then work out and thats why we take a walk after eating dinner. Anyone know which is better?

Well, Some say take your SQ in the morning, 30 min later eat breakfast then exercise and the same after the evening meal to go for a good jaunty walk. The extreme SQ says to get up in the morning, take your SQ then do your cardio and exercises to jump start your metabolism then eat and to go back and do some more good heart pumping exercise like walking etc after supper. So I guess it is up to you. I take my SQ in the morning, do my cardio work, then eat breakfast then to my full body exercises. After supper I take the dog for a good 45 min. brisk walk.

Hey...i honestly don't think it makes too much difference. I personally eat before AND after haha...but they're both very small "meals". (I try to eat every 2 hours, keeping them all around the 200 cal range) If you eat before you work out, people think you're "burning it off"...but you may also end up ill. If you workout and then eat, your metabolism is high because of the eercise and when you do eat, it burns it of faster anyways so either way.

I workout before meals. I cannot do a good workout with a full stomach. I do better on an empty stomach. I even get up in the am, not eat a thing, and workout before i do anything. Sometimes i will have a cup or two of coffee in the am, but even then i have to wait a while before i workout after drinking that coffee. When i workout in the afternoons when i get home from work, i do it on an empty stomach, before i have dinner.

I do workouts I have purchased through BeachBody. (beachbody.com). All of their fitness experts recommend working out on an EMPTY stomach. This makes your body basically eat the fat stores for energy while you exercise. You should then refule your body within an hour of working out, with the ideal meal being 30% carbs, 40% protein, and 30% fat (the carbs and protein will help your body heal more quickly after the workout, helpful for sore muscles). Ideally, workouts are recommended to be done first thing in the morning, but if you workout later in the day, wait two hours after a meal to do your workout and then refuel your body.
